Barjora College was set up in 1985 when virtually higher education was a long way off especially to the economically backward classes of the Northern Bankura District. To boost the need of higher education a few distinguished education-lovers and dedicators of the locality realized the dream.

The college is Non-Government one affiliated to the University of Burdwan. All other expenses, including payments to Part-time staff, casual staff and Guest Faculty are borne by the college.
